V. I. LENIN
This struggle is necessarily a trade union struggle, because working conditions differ greatly in different trades and consequently the struggle to improve them can only be conducted on the basis of trade organisations, in the western countries through trade unions, in Russia through temporary trade associations and through leaflets etc. Is this not happening in Britain today? Is this not what all the Labour Government have been doing since ? As a consequence, by disarming the working class, they too open the door to dictatorship, despite their legal Marxist differences with the right wing.
It is the petty-bourgeois trade union bureaucracy which rules the Labour Party through a high-powered group of equally petty-bourgeois careerist intellectuals who, deep down, hate the working class and secretly worship at the feet of Mrs. Thatcher and her anti-union laws.
Trade union bureaucrats run the Labour Party precisely for this purpose today. Just as mental labour separated itself from manual labour, spontaneity must be regarded separately from consciousness. Lenin, in What is to be Done? It would have to be brought to them from without. The history of all countries shows that the working class, exclusively by its own effort, is able to develop only trade union consciousness, i. It also explains why the votes of the WRP in elections are always very small in comparison to those candidates from the Labour and Tory Parties.
In addition the class hostility towards the Tories is exploited by the Labourites in order to return Labour voters after the election to the safety and reactionary tranquillity of spontaneity and bourgeois ideology. In order to combat the opportunism emanating from the reactionary swamp, our Party has to constantly wage political war against all forms of opportunism and trace their historical source. It thus inevitably submits to the ideas and morals of the ruling class.
Having risen on the backs of the proletariat the social democrats become merely a bourgeois party of the second order. This applies very powerfully to the Labour Party and the trade unions at the present time. Only in this dialectical relation can the relative significance of the sharp conflict between them by analysed and understood. It is reality of a higher stage emerging out of a reality of a lower stage. The development of consciousness, however, cannot by accomplished except through the dialectical process of cognition, wherein the impulse towards revolutionary Practice which will change the world is initially derived.
In the course of this a break from spontaneity becomes imperative. Since the process of Cognition is derived from the method of Marxism as a world scientific outlook, the development of consciousness can only be undertaken when that break is made from spontaneity. This is what Lenin meant when he wrote:.
For the spontaneous movement of the working class cannot by itself develop consciousness, since it has a bourgeois ideological content. Such a position can only lead to the worst king of opportunism and liquidation into spontaneity and bourgeois ideology. It is against such deserters that Trotsky emphasised the decisive role of the dialectical materialist method in his last writings before he was murdered by Stalin. Consciousness, therefore, must be scientifically developed out of the external world which is its source.

Here is the core of the relative nature of the conflict between spontaneity and consciousness of between bourgeois idealism and the process of cognition. In his preparatory work on What is the be Done? Lenin was guided by the analysis which Marx made 42 years earlier when he wrote:.
What Is to Be Done? - Wikipedia
The totality of these relations of production constitutes the economic structure of society, the real foundation, on which arises a legal and political superstructure and to which correspond definite forms of social consciousness. They were took prisoners. The President committed suicide as an act of defiance and resistance. Its existence was engraved that obscure day. In , the door was rebuilt and reopened through a performative political act. This symbolical gesture was an act through which the weak democracy intended to restore H history.
At the end, besides the precarious theatricality, it remains as an empty event. In what is known as Philosophy of Action, the action, and therefore the act, supposes an intention, even when it operates at the level of the spontaneous.
An agent acts because there is an interest to do it. So if the reasons are exposed, then we have the intention of the act and its meaning. But what if the act searches, as its inner intention, to deactivate that sense?
What if the act in itself happens without being noticed? Action is different than something that happens, precisely because of the purpose the agent embeds in it. The act is directed by the agent, which is finally responsible, and accountable, for the nature of the act. It inexists. It is an act with a low level of appearance. It has the intensity of the almost nothing. Unnoticed, the act disperses itself in its appearing, disseminating itself towards void. It establishes a state of almost inconsistency, at the edge of the banality of being.
An act of thinking. As such, its place of being is not those of the occurrence, but rather of the out-of-place, the offside. It subtracts through the physicality of its own event. There, at the point of the act, it is said that a time is also born.
A supplementary time. A time as excess, even if that excess happens at the level of the inexistent, an excess of almost nothing. Within the obsolescent timing of the black sun, the act happens within this world in its permanent state of emergency; within permanent war; within this permanent state of catastrophe, of persecution; within a timeless state of extermination.

A dark time indeed. Those of the closure. The time of ashes. An act.
What is to be Done? - Burning Questions of Our Movement (Paperback, New edition)
The time of the inexistent happens as a force. A time that folds itself. Its politics is its force-form of measurement. It forces the ruling time.
Unable of being captured or fixed, every productive documentation would only be a declension of its own vanishing state. There is not signal, no indicium in the act itself. Afflicted by a lack of sense, its disposability is burnt. Elusive at the expense of its own stagnation, the act clears itself from the worldly background and refigures itself at the out-of-place. Elusive, the act remains, not being there anymore.
The intensity of the act defines its visibility. The act institutes. The act is the measurement of a new place. A place that has been forced-formed by the inexistence of the act. Inexistence is a degree of appearance within a given situation.
